Welcome Volleyball Unite Athletes!

My name is Scott Lahey. I am a former varsity volleyball player (University of Calgary) and professional beach volleyball player (FIVB), current NBVL (National Beach Volleyball League) Calgary Champion and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (FRS), Performance Therapist (ALTIS), and Nutrition Coach (Precision Nutrition).

If you are looking for industry-leading volleyball performance training solutions, you came to right place. Whether you are looking for an advanced movement evaluation/assessment, a custom performance training program, in-person or virtual personal/group training, nutrition coaching, or a ready-to-go online training program, I am confident that we can find a solution that helps you achieve your volleyball performance goals. Let’s say we start with a conversation and go from there?

Volleyball Performance Training Solutions

By participating in a well designed physical preparation/performance training program (designed and monitored by a qualified movement professional), you can systematically:

  • train your body to produce, absorb, and transfer force more efficiently and effectively.

  • increase your structural (tissue) load tolerance and usable joint range of motion.

  • enhance your movement mechanics, body awareness, and injury resiliency.

  • Maximize your explosive strength/power and your volleyball performance potential!

My objective, whether working with individual athletes, teams, or organizations, is to determine what matters, measure what matters, and change what matters, ultimately helping volleyball athletes unleash their full performance potential. To learn more about how I evaluate and work with volleyball athletes, see here and here, and check out the various solutions below.

Solution #1: Evaluation and Testing

As the flow chart illustrates, there is a systematic process when moving from point A (Athlete History) to point B (Program Design and Exercise Prescription). While the comprehensiveness of each step in the process will depend upon your starting point (ie. age, training age/experience, goals/needs etc.), every athlete should undergo at least a few simple MSK and foundational movement competency assessments, and basic strength and power ability assessments, in order to: identify important red flags, weaknesses, imbalances, starting metrics etc.; influence training goals, exercise prescription, and program design; and determine the most effective path forward. Solution #2: Custom Performance Training Program Design, Monitoring, and Coaching

Following the Evaluation and Testing process (Solution #1) we will debrief to determine the best path forward and formalize the personalized program design, monitoring, and coaching relationship/process (ie. how frequently will you train? What equipment do you have available? How long will the training program last? How often we will meet for personal coaching [either in-person or virtually]? When and how will we evaluate your progress? etc.). This is truly a custom solution, so the answers to these questions will determine the cost of the program/process. Please book a FREE “no-sweat” consultation to discuss and negotiate the details of this Solution.

Solution #3: Personal (or Group/Team) Training

Whether in-person or virtually (via Zoom), I can facilitate private, small group, or team training sessions at regularly scheduled times to ensure proper execution of each exercise, provide educational context (why and what for?) and precise coaching cues and prompts, and enhance athlete accountability and compliance. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (FRS), and Performance Therapist (ALTIS) (among other credentials), and 20+ years of experience training youth athletes, I am confident that I can add educational value to your performance training experience. Plus, I have access to multiple training venues/locations throughout Calgary, and a Pro Zoom account, so training with me has never been easier. Let’s connect to discuss how Personal/Group Training can help you achieve your volleyball performance goals.

Solution #4: “Show & Go” Online Training

Not ready to invest in a comprehensive MSK Evaluation and Testing process, custom programming, monitoring, and coaching, or Personal/Group Training? Not to worry. You can still access ready-to-go, outstanding volleyball performance training programs, created specifically with youth volleyball athletes in mind. With multiple options available (ie. 2 days/week, 3 days/week, 4 days/week), modification suggestions for most exercises, and video links to individual exercise demonstrations, tutorials, and full workout “walk-throughs”, this “Show & Go” Solution is perfect to help you get started.

Solution #5: Nutrition Coaching

What should I eat? A simple question with, usually, not so simple answers. If you are confused and confounded by the complexities of nutrition science, then you are not alone. I can help you cut through the noise and nonsense and establish simple and healthy nutrition practices that fuel and support your performance. My Nutrition Coaching Program is a comprehensive curriculum (educational content/lessons developed by Precision Nutrition) coupled with an interactive online coaching platform that allows me to tailor the lessons to your specific needs/goals, monitor your progress, and provide feedback and coaching tips throughout the process. This Solution goes well beyond pithy nutrition “do’s” and “don’ts”. It introduces you to the fundamental nutrition science AND challenges you to practice specific skills and behaviours to help enhance your health and performance.
